WCCC Dean of Health Professions Receives PA Distinguished Nurse Award
YOUNGWOOD, PA - The Westmoreland County Community College dean of Health Professions, Dr. Kathy Malloy of White Oak, was recently awarded the Distinguished Nurse Award by the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association.
The award, the highest given by the organization, recognizes a Pennsylvania State Nurses Association member who has demonstrated leadership characteristics, and rendered distinguished service to the nursing profession and whose contributions and accomplishments are of significance throughout the Commonwealth.
As dean of health professions, Malloy oversees the college’s dental assisting, dental hygiene, diagnostic medical sonography, expanded functions dental assisting, medical assisting, phlebotomy/specimen processing and radiology technology programs. She also provides oversight for the nursing program which is conducted at the Youngwood campus and the college’s education centers in Greene and Indiana counties. The eight allied health programs enrolled 1,760 students this fall.
Malloy received the award during a ceremony held as part of the association’s 2009 nursing summit at DeSales University Friday, October 23.
She received her nursing degree from McKeesport Hospital School of Nursing and earned bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Pittsburgh.
