Baseball Ends Season

Prince George’s CC used timely hitting and pitching to defeat the Wolfpack 6-4 in the opening round of the Region XX tournament which sent WCCC to the losers bracket. WCCC went on to defeat CCAC South 10-7 and earn another shot at PG. However, the Owls got the best of the Wolfpack once again 4-3, thus knocking them out of the regional tournament and ending their season at 14-20 and a 3rd place finish in regional’s.

WCCC handed out 33 academic awards to current student/athlete’s who maintained a 3.00 in their course work for the year. Kerri Zelenak receive the outstanding student athlete award which was presented by WCCC president Dr. Danielle Obara. Zelenak maintained a 3.74 GPA, was a two year member of the women’s basketball team, along with being a member of the early childhood club and Phi Theta Kappa. Top male athlete went to Andy Carter while Danielle Murphy received the top female athlete award. Top Outstanding athlete by sport went to: Baseball- Nick Draghi; Cross Country- Tori Vallana; Golf – Chris Cline; Men’ Soccer- Phil Passaga; Women’s Soccer- Karli Holmes; Men’s Basketball- Andy Carter; Women’s Basketball- Jasmine Belt; Volleyball- Nicole Goodiski; Softball- Whitney Thompson and Bowling-Jake Garris.
SB/BB Players Earn All Region Honors

Baseball players Gordon Barr, Logan Douglas and Matt Shoemaker were selected to the 2013 NJCAA Division III All-region Baseball team. Barr an infielder batted .413 on the season as outfielder Logan Douglas hit .398. Matt Shoemaker was selected as a pitcher as he went 4-2 on the mound for the WCCC. Two Wolfpack softball players were named to the 2013 NJCAA Division III All-Region Softball team as Whitney Thompson and Melanie Welc earned regional honors. Thompson was selected to the first team as she hit .474 and finished second in steals in division III softball for the year. Melanie earned honors on the second team hitting .345 while picking up 9 wins in the circle.
Thompson Sets Hit Record

Whitney Thompson set a softball school record for consecutive hits with 7 during a doubleheader against Montgomery College of Maryland. Thompson went a perfect 4 for 4 in game one then 3 for 3 in the nightcap. On the year, she is hitting a whopping .479 and ranks among the NJCAA top hitters and base stealers. Whitney and Wolfpack will be back in action Wednesday at CCAC South. WCCC (11-11) will be hosting the 2013 NJCAA D III Softball Championships May 3-5.
Lakers and Wolfpack Split

WCCC received an outstanding pitching performance from lefty Matt Shoemaker in the opening game Sunday at Garrett, as the Wolfpack went on to defeated Garrett 6-1. WCCC was not so fortunate in the second game as the Lakers scored in the bottom of the 7th to earn 5-4 win and split the series. Outfielder Tyler Lila continues to swing a red hot bat as he pounded out 5 RBI’s on the day as the Wolf pack improved to (9-16).

WCCC is proud to announce its partnership with the Westmoreland Sports Network to broadcast live coverage on several baseball and softball games this spring. WSN will also broadcast future soccer, basketball and volleyball games in the upcoming year. All selected games will live carried live by WSN and achieved on the WSN to listen to rebroadcasts. Baseball Splits With MC

After a tough start on the their season and a 4-1 loss to #6 national ranked Montgomery College of Maryland in game one, the Wolfpack came out swinging in the nightcap to defeat the Raptors 12-4. Matt shoemaker led the way with 3 hits, while Logan Douglas, Tyler Lilja, Jesse Hart, Dom Depalma and Jay Miller each banged out two hits apiece. With the split WCCC stands at 4-15.
Ladies Draw Split

Melanie Welc belted a 2 run homerun as the Women’s softball team run ruled CCBC-PA 9-1, as Welc also picked up the circle win. However in game two, WCCC couldn’t manage a late come back and was defeated 9-8. Morgan Komarny, Whitney Thompson and Lauren Gross held the hot bats in the nightcap as the ladies dropped to 8-4.
Murphy Names All-American

Freshman guard, Danielle Murphy was recently named to the 2013 NJCAA D III Honorable Mention All- American basketball team for her stellar play this season. Murphy led the NJCAA D III in three point field goal percentage shooting at a whopping 48% while amassing 16 ppg. Murphy helped lead the Wolfpack to a school record 23-5 record and a WPCC championship.
