Nurse Aide  



Nurse Aide Program

 The Nurse Aide Program consists of 72 hours of lecture/lab and 56 hours of clinical, which provides the skills to function as a nurse aide in a long-term care facility and meets the mandates of the federal government (via OBRA). After successful completion of the program, you will be able to function at the entry level and be eligible to take the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide certification exam.

Tuition: $579.00

Admission Requirements

·        Complete Registration Form

·        Check or money order for $579.00 payable to “WCCC.” If an agency or employer is paying the tuition, a letter from the agency stating its intent to pay.

·        Evidence of High school diploma or GED.

·        A criminal history report free of prohibitive offenses must be obtained within the last year before starting a nurse aide training program. To obtain the report go to http://www.psp.state.pa.us and click on ‘Public Services’ then ‘Criminal History Request’ and follow instructions.  Or download and mail the application. Applications via the US Postal system may take up to four (4) weeks to process. If the individual has not been a resident of Pennsylvania for the last two years he or she must obtain a PA State Police Criminal History Report at the web site above, a FBI Report, and letter of approval for Nurse Aide training. As per the Nurse Aide Resident Abuse Prevention Training Act,individuals shall be denied admission to an approved Nurse Aide training program if said individual has been convicted of specific crimes as outlined in this law.

·        Physical Exam that is dated within one year of the start of the nurse aide program. This exam must include: (1) evidence that the individual is free of any communicable disease; and (2) a negative 2-step Mantoux. If the Mantoux is positive, then a negative chest x-ray that is less than five years old is required.

·        Two (2) letters of reference from persons other than a relative.

 

 

·        Verification of Residency form with copies of two forms of identification. Download Verification of Residency Form.

·        The occupational responsibilities of the candidate may involve having full use of their hands,the ability to stand for extensive periods of time, and the ability to perform bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting a minimum of 40 pounds without restrictions.

 

·        The candidate will need basic math, reading, and writing skills in English.

Upon Notification of Program Admission:

·        Purchase liability insurance. Go to www.nso.com.

·        Purchase the required textbook, Nursing Assistant Care: Long Term Care, 2ndedition, by Hedman, Fuzy, Rymer, Hartman Publishing, Inc. and the workbook, Hartman’s Nursing Assistant Care: Long-Term Care, 2nd edition, by Hartman Publishing, Inc. (Approximate cost is $57.00.)

Course Requirements:

·        Attend all classes – both theory and lab.

·        Achieve 80% overall on exams.

·        Be able to do heavy lifting (verified by your physical exam).

·        Show evidence of liability insurance prior to the first day of clinical.

·        Perform all the skills on the clinical performance records.

·        Wear identification, which clearly states you are a trainee. Identification provided by WCCC.

·        Wear uniforms,duty shoes, and white hose to clinical. Specifics will be discussed the firstday of class.
